TikTok star Khaby Lame was detained by ICE during a recent trip to the US, it has been confirmed.
The internet sensation has over 162 million followers on the video sharing app, was detained by ICE last week.
The US Immigration and Customs Enforcement department confirmed that he had been detained for “immigration violations.”
They claimed that the 25-year-old overstayed his visa, which ran out on April 30.
He was released after less than a day in detention, and had left the US shortly after.
"U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement detained Seringe Khabane Lame, 25, a citizen of Italy, June 6, at the Harry Reid International Airport, Las Vegas, Nevada for immigration violations," they confirmed in a statement.
"Lame entered the United States April 30 and overstayed the terms of his visa. Lame was granted voluntary departure June 6 and has since departed the U.S."
Lame's detention comes amid an immigration crackdown by the Trump administration.
ICE have been conducting raids almost daily, and over the weekend protests erupted in Los Angeles against Trump’s repression of immigration.
US authorities, including the LAPD, and National Guard troops clashed with the crowd of demonstrators yesterday (Sunday 8th June).
Lame is one of the biggest TikTokers in the world, having amassed millions of followers on the app.
