It caused a major security scare.

A malicious package sent to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle is being treated as a racist hate crime by Metropolitan Police after it was delivered to St Jame’s Palace on the 12th of February.

The package is said to have contained white powder and a threatening, racist message directed at the former Suits actress Markle.

Metropolitan Police said of the incident: “Officers are also investigating an allegation of malicious communications which relates to the same package, and it is being treated as a racist hate crime. The matter is being investigated by officers from the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command.”

The powder, which was originally believed to be deadly substance anthrax, was tested by officers and found not to be suspicious.

Counter-terrorism detectives have launched an investigation but no arrests have been made as of yet.

St.Jame’s Palace is home to several members of the Royal Family and is where Prince Harry’s office is situated. The soon-to-be-married couple themselves live at nearby Kensington Palace.

The couple will be wed on the 19th of May at Windsor Castle.
