Sean Combs is known under many aliases, including P Diddy, Diddy, Love, and of course Puff Daddy.
The 55-year-old hip hop artist was arrested last September in New York, six months after federal agents raided his properties in Los Angeles and Miami.
Since his arrest he's been held in detention, having been refused bail.
He is now on trial for various charges, including sex trafficking, racketeering, and transportation and engagement in prostitution.
As of recent, the rapper is often also referred to as 'the defendant', or even 'Frank Black', according to a witness who claimed that the rapper used the name to stay anonymous to protect his public image from the 'freak-offs' he would direct in hotel rooms.
However, in the early 2000s the rapper rose to fame under the nickname 'Puff Daddy'.
According to the Mirror, the rapper explained that the name derives from the nickname 'puff' he used to have as a kid.
He admitted that as a young kid, he had quite a temper.
He was constantly told that he would 'huff and puff' whenever he got angry.
This resulted in him adopting the name 'Puff Daddy' for his music career.
It was under the name 'Puff Daddy' that he founded Bad Boy Records in 1993.
He released some of his most successful hits under this name, such as debut single 'Can't Nobody Hold Me Down', which climbed the charts to number one in 1977.
In 2001 Combs changed his name from 'Puff Daddy' to 'P Diddy' after a small courtroom victory when he was found not guilty for gun possession and bribery.
At the the time he described the rebrand as a fresh start.
However, what once was a harmless nickname connected to one of HipHop's household names, is now a moniker connected to numerous unsettling allegations.
Combs is now facing far worse claims than the ones back in 2001.
His legal team continues to deny all allegations concerning sex trafficking and racketeering, maintaining his innocence.
We're now on day 16 of the Diddy trial, having had chilling testimonies from numerous celebrities, including ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura, Scott Mescudi (Kid Cudi), and many others.
