This is going to be a cracker

Happy Premier League day to all that celebrate!

Throughout the course of the next nine months there will be agony, ecstasy and 20 teams playing against each other, all in various combinations. Breathtaking.

Those tuning in on Sky Sports tonight will be treated to an absolute spectacle as newly-promoted Burnley face the reigning champions Manchester City as Vincent Kompany takes on his former manager and side at Turf Moor.

While the game is expected to serve up plenty of quality, there is also the matter of who will be covering the game from pitchside, analysing the game from all angles before, during and after the full time whistle.

Presenter Kelly Cates will be joined by the dynamic duo of Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher. The two have been mainstays on the Sky Sports punditry line up and have been the first choices for the Premier League’s opening games in previous years.

Peter Drury is the exciting addition to the commentary line up this season but fans will have to wait a little longer to hear his poetic lines after Rob Hawthorne was given the task of being the man behind the mic for the curtain raiser.

As for matters on the pitch, Kompany will have an array of new players to select from as he prepares to start off Burnley’s season with a major scalp early doors.

Burnley have made 10 new signings including England Under-21 hero James Trafford, who could make his debut against his former club. Sander Berge, Nathan Redmond and Zeki Amdouni could also make their first appearance for last season’s Sky Bet Championship champions.

Josko Gvardiol could feature for the first time since his £78m to Man City while Mateo Kovacic could make a first Premier League appearance for the champions after making his debut in the Community Shield defeat.

Erling Haaland will be looking to get off the mark once again after his prolific debut campaign while the likes of Jack Grealish, Bernardo Silva and Rodri are all expected to start.
