Shane MacGowan's wife, Victoria Mary Clarke, has been keeping fans of McGowan and his music updated via social media.
It's believed the 65-year-old singer has been in intensive care in recent months after being diagnosed with encephalitis in 2022.
Victoria Mary Clarke, an Irish journalist, thanked fans for the well wishes when posting on 'X' earlier this week.
She then offered this positive update on Friday:
Ms Clarke said last week she was "facing terrifying fears of loss".
She added:
"Love is the most beautiful and powerful thing that we can experience as humans but love can also feel painful especially if you are afraid of losing a person or anything else that you love."
The couple married in Denmark in 2018 after more than 30 years together.
Her most recent post indicates that Shane has had a positive week of recovery and that the Pogues singer is "feeling much better".
Ms Clarke previously revealed MacGowan's bandmates Spider Stacy and Terry Woods had visited him in hospital recently.
Fans of Shane and his music have been posting messages of support online in the hope he will be able to spend Christmas at home.
MacGowan has suffered with a number of health issues in recent years.
He broke his pelvis in 2015 and has used a wheelchair since.
In 2021 he injured his knee in a fall, and later confirmed he "can't walk anymore".
