Budget airline Ryanair say they’ve been “forced to cancel” more than 170 flights which had been set to take place this Thursday and Friday, as the knock-on affect of strike action being taken by French air traffic controllers.
Two separate French trade unions are staging two-day strike action over working conditions.
The strike will commence from the 3rd until the 4th of July.
A quarter of flights at the main Paris airports have been cancelled while half of the flights at Nice airport will not go ahead as scheduled.
Beyond the flights going to and from France, Ryanair also says that flights which had been scheduled to fly over French territory have also been affected.
Ryanair’s Michael O’Leary said: “Once again European families are held to ransom by French Air Traffic Controllers going on strike.
“It is not acceptable that overflights over French airspace en route to their destination are being cancelled/delayed as a result of yet another French ATC strike.
“It makes no sense and is abundantly unfair on EU passengers and families going on holidays.”
The French transport minister has also spoken out against the trade unions, adding that it is unacceptable to take the action now, with so many passengers planning holidays over the weekend.
