Raheem Sterling to make donation to those affected by Grenfell Tower fire

Manchester City's Raheem Sterling will make a donation to help those affected by the fire at Grenfell Tower.

At the time of writing, the blaze is known to have claimed the lives of 17 people - a figure which is expected to rise - after it swept through the North Kensington tower block during the early hours of Wednesday morning. Many more of its residents have also lost their homes. Sterling grew up in north west London and began his career at Queens Park Rangers, a club whose Loftus Road stadium is situated just a mile away from the tower. "This is a deep and sad situation, one that's close to my heart and hard to swallow," Sterling told the BBC.  "I would like to help in the best way I can." Emergency services are expected to spend a third day searching the tower, with police warning that they may never be able to identify all of the people who died in in the fire.
