Northumbria Police fired Katie Barratt after she racially abused staff in a takeaway whilst waiting for a pizza

A police officer has been sacked after she admitted to racially abusing staff in a takeaway she visited during a night out.

While drunkenly waiting for a pizza PC Katie Barratt called the workers in a Newcastle takeaway “fucking Paki” while talking to her colleagues.

It was alleged that Barratt also used the phrase “fucking nigger” in reference to staff there, but the former police officer denied this.

She was also accused of using the first racial epithet six time which Barratt accepted in part, saying she said it maybe twice.

Barratt sacked following a misconduct hearing at Houghton-le-Spring police station in Tyne and Wear.

Two police officers who were with her on the night out told the hearing she was drunk, unable to walk properly and slurring her words.

Det Supt Sav Patsalos, head of Northumbria Police’s professional standards department, said: “The language used by PC Katie Barratt is wholly unacceptable.

“This was recognised by a colleague who rightly came forward to report the comments, reflecting the culture within the force where people have the confidence to speak up and challenge unacceptable behaviour.”
