A "pioneering" TV chef has died suddenly aged 44 with tributes pouring in for them.

The news of the death of chef Dom Taylor was confirmed by his team.

Taylor was best known winning TV cooking show 'Five Star Kitchen: Britain’s Next Great Chef' in 2023.

He had began a 10-month residency at The Langham, a luxury London hotel soon after winning the show with his Caribbean restaurant The Good Front Room.

The restaurant, which has since moved to Dalston, Hackney, received very strong reviews.

His restaurant announced the death of Taylor on Instagram.

It read: “We are deeply saddened to share the news of the sudden passing of our founder, Chef Dom Taylor.

”Dom was a visionary whose bold, joyful approach to celebrating the Caribbean cuisine of his childhood brought a fresh and exciting voice to London’s restaurant scene.

“His passion, talent and generosity touched so many people, and his legacy will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him and experiencing his food. He will be deeply missed, and our thoughts are with his family, friends and everyone whose lives he touched during this incredibly difficult time.

”We kindly ask that everyone respects the privacy of Dom’s loved ones at this time. The Good Front Room will remain open as we honour Dom’s legacy and continue the work he was so passionate about. We appreciate your understanding and support during this difficult period."

In the wake of the news, tributes poured in for the chef.

Fellow chefs Craig and Shaun McAnuff said: “Heartbreaking news. A true pioneer, truly lost for words. Prayers to his family.”

Meanwhile, journalist Paula Akpan commented: "It was a real honour to interview Dom earlier this year, I was so moved by how beautifully he channelled the memories and culinary traditions of the matriarchs in his family into The Good Front Room. I’m so deeply sorry and thinking of all his loved ones."

Food writer, Melissa Thompson commented: "Sending love and strength to the team. Dom was a very special person."
