Piers Morgan responds to petition, confirms he will NOT return to GMB
If it needed confirming
Piers Morgan has confirmed he will not be returning to Good Morning Britain, just in case that wasn't obvious.
He resigned from his role as the show's presenter amid a fall out with ITV following the backlash to his comments about Meghan Markle.
If you've been living under a rock, here's a quick recap of the saga.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle told Oprah Winfrey about their experience within the royal family and why they decided to step back and move to America. Two of the most shocking revelations came when Meghan revealed she had felt suicidal at times, but was told she could not seek the necessary support as it would reflect badly on "the firm", and that one member of the royal family expressed concerns over what skin tone baby Archie would have.
Following the powerful interview, Piers Morgan cooked up a take so hot even ITV thought he had gone too far. Morgan said he "doesn't believe a word she says" in direct reference to Meghan's account of her depression.
These comments prompted a huge backlash from normal, sympathetic people and reportedly led to a stand-off between ITV chiefs and Morgan. ITV bosses reportedly wanted a full and frank apology on air but sticking to his guns (and enjoying the controversy), Morgan is reported to have refused, and walked from the job.
Then, triggered snowflakes signed a petition to have him reinstated as host of the show, unsure of how to go about their days without a huge dose of toxic discourse in the morning.
Shockingly, the petition did not work.
Morgan has since addressed the petition, tweeting: "I won't be going back, but thanks to everyone who has signed these petitions.
"Normally, people start petitions to have me fired or deported, so this is a pleasant surprise."
