People are taking the piss out of Bono’s plan to take on ISIS

Not pro-Bono

What is it about mononymous musicians that sparks a desire to take on the Islamic State?

First we had Shaggy, who told ISIS to “go f**k themselves”, and it looked like he was making some leeway following the death of the terror group’s official singer and songwriter. Yes, this is a thing which really happened.

And now it’s the turn of the second most famous musician with one name to hatch a plan to deal with the threat. That’s right, Bono.

Bono Testifies At Senate Appropriations Committee On Violent Extremism

The U2 frontman has, bizarrely, decided the way to deal with ISIS is by sending Chris Rock, Amy Schumer and Sacha Baron Cohen to the Middle East.

“I think comedy should be deployed…It’s like, you speak violence, you speak their language,” Bono said at a Senate panel in the United States.

No, we’re not sure why Bono was on a senate panel, but bear with us.

“You laugh at them, when they’re goose-stepping down the street, and it takes away their power,” he continued, suggesting he has been basing his entire political strategy on old episodes of Fawlty Towers.

Ironically, the public have taken Bono’s lead, deciding the best way to deal with the problem of Bono himself is to laugh at him.

Turns out it works pretty well.
