“It is the responsibility of the customer to thoroughly check the supplied good before agreeing to pay for any meal/order”

The freight company handed a £13 million contract to schedule extra ferries in the event of a No Deal Brexit is facing accusations that they took their terms and conditions from a takeaway website.

Some eagle-eyed folk spotted that the T&Cs on Seaborne Freight’s website didn’t seem right.

On the “Placing an order” section, it states that customers should “thoroughly check the supplied goods before agreeing to pay for any meal/order”.

Another section states: “Delivery charges are calculated per order and based on [delivery details here].”

Further down, it says: “Any delivery charges will be displayed clearly in your order summary.”

According to Sky News, the copy also appears on several other websites, including a college alumni society and a wool company.

A transport department spokesperson said: “This section of the terms and conditions on the company’s website was put up in error. This is being immediately rectified.”

The spokesperson also stated that due diligence was taken to confirm Seaborne’s “financial, technical and legal underpinning” before they were awarded the contract.

It is not the first cause of embarrassment for Seaborne this week – on Sunday it emerged that they don’t actually have any ships.
