Popular YouTube user WillNE tried to find which are the most honest and least honest cities in the UK.
And he did this in a rather simple way.
WillNE posted details of his bank accounts on billboards of ten cities in the UK.
These included: London, Bristol, Cardiff, Southampton, Birmingham, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle, and Glasgow.
He tried to see in which city his money would be taken first, as in each city, billboards had details of his bank account pre-loaded with £1,000.
Other tests he did included leaving a bicycle unattended and without locking it, to see after how long it would get stolen.
Or, if people would return a lost wallet.
Through this experiment, the YouTube star wanted to challenge North-South stereotypes in the UK.
WillNE, whose real name is William Jonathan Lenney, said that “for those outside of the UK there is a huge divide that separates the British Isles and that is the North versus the South”.
He said “the north is considered the poorer of the two but generally more friendly whereas the South is seen as richer but rude and unwelcoming.'
And it took a mere six minutes for the bike in London to get stolen, so the bicycle experiment didn’t take long at all.
And London was the first where a transaction happened too – it was a 9p purchase on OnlyFans.
But in other cities, spending was bigger. A notable one was a £199 spending on EasyJet from someone in Birmingham whereas £400 were used on Roblox by a passerby in the UK capital.
Newcastle was the most shocking one yet, as somebody tried to spend a total of no less than £50,000.
WillNE awarded points to Cardiff, Leeds and Manchester for their sincerity.
In these three cities the bank details were used for donations to charity.
The wallet experiment, that drew inspiration from YouTuber Mark Rober from the US, consisted of WillNE filling wallets with small amounts of money and fake IDs.
He dropped one in each of those cities to see how many would be brought back.
One hundred wallets were dropped in total and 75 of them were returned, 71 of those with money. This means people in the UK are quick in selfless acts as they were picked within five minutes.
Cardiff appears to be the most honest city according to this experiment, and London the least honest.
“This also means on average the North of the UK is far superior to the South - thank you very much for watching, goodbye”, WillNE concluded.
