A man has died after he was mauled by an “out of control” dog which had to be shot by armed officers, police have confirmed.

The man died after sustaining ‘serious injuries’ when he was attacked by the dog at a house in Normanton, Derby, yesterday (April 22).

Police shut Cameron Road from the early hours of Saturday, with a cordon put in place that also left parts of Brunswick Street also inaccessible to the public.

The dog was shot by firearm officers after they were called to the address to reports a man had been seriously injured by a dog.

An updated statement released at 11.30pm on Saturday night confirmed that a man had died as a result of the attack.
