Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer is being investigated over potential breaches of rules on earnings and gifts, the parliamentary website show. The investigation is being headed up by the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards, Kathryn Stone, who will look into whether the Leader of the Opposition breached the rules regarding employment and earnings and registering gifts, benefits and hospitality.

Two potential breaches of the rules which all MPs must adhere to are under consideration, after the case was opened last week.

Starmer today told reporters the allegations did not surprise him: “My office is dealing with it and will be replying in due course.”

Asked if he was confident of his innocence, the Labour leader said: “Absolutely confident, there’s no problem here.”
