“I’ve reached the end of the road.”
Katie Piper has delivered an update on her eye health after she had it sewn shut for a year.
The Loose Women panelist has been open about her health struggles over the years after she suffered an acid attack in 2008 at the hands of her former boyfriend and an accomplice.
She was just 24 years old when her ex, Daniel Lynch, 47, began to plot the attack against her.
In March that year, he enlisted the help of Stefan Sylvestre who doused Piper in acid in broad daylight in a London street.
Since then, she has required 400 operations to heal from the injuries caused. She has since become an ambassador and activist, setting up her own foundation to help raise awareness of the plight of victims of burns and other disfigurement injuries.
However, recently Katie Piper has been struggling with one of her eyes. Back in 2023 following a previous eye surgery, she revealed things were not progressing well.
In an Instagram video she said: “I’ve spent the morning back at the eye clinic as I’ve got problems with my eye. I’ve got a defect and an infection that is becoming really hard to treat.”
However, on Friday she gave an update on her health journey.
Taking to social media she said: “After many years battling with my eye health, I’ve reached the end of road somewhat, and the decision has been made to try a prosthetic eye shell.
“This marks the start of a journey to have an artificial eye, with an incredible medical team behind me. As always I’m incredibly grateful to all those in the NHS and private health care system for their talent and kindness.”
She added: “I will share my journey, I’m hopeful and nervous about being able tolerate it and would love to hear from any of you in the comments if you’ve been on this journey or have any advice…”
Her followers flocked to wish her well with the next stage of her journey.
One commented: “You’re very brave Katie x I’ve been following your journey since your first documentary and I always get so excited every time I hear you’re doing something new or featuring in something new x you’re very brave x be kind to yourself.”
