Get the gazebo out, you’ll need some shelter at your Jubilee picnic this weekend

Heavy rain and storms are expected to hit large parts of the UK this Jubilee weekend, throwing a spanner in the works of plans up and down the country.

A yellow weather warning has been issued across London, the South East and the South West of England for Saturday morning, with the worst-hit areas set to experience heavy downpours and lightning.

The Met Office said there is the possibility of thunderstorms moving north into southern counties of England during the early hours of Saturday, when frequent lightning and rain is expected.

The timing is not ideal to say the least, with Saturday set to be one of the main days for Jubilee celebrations across the country.

Over 60,000 people have registered to host Big Jubilee Lunches on Saturday, and a major concert is taking place at Buckingham Palace in the evening with a star-studded line up including rock band Queen, Diana Ross, Alicia Keys and the UK’s Eurovision competitor Sam Ryder.

The outlook doesn’t get any brighter for Sunday either, with rain expected across large parts of the country.

Safe to say that if you’re attending any picnics or outdoor events this weekend, it may be wise to pack a brolly, and make sure those sandwiches are under a bit of cover just in case.
