Pogba contract terminated after only 6 games played

Paul Pogba has left Monaco after one season, with the Ligue 1 club terminating a contract that ran until June 2027.

Monaco said the deal had been ended early due to objectives only being "partially achieved", according to BBC Sport.

The 2018 World Cup champion only played six matches for the club, with five of them coming from the bench.

It is an abrupt end to a comeback that carried real weight.

Pogba joined Monaco last summer after being cleared to return following a doping suspension picked up at Juventus.

A four-year ban followed the 33 year-ild midfielder, but the Court of Arbitration for Sport cut it to 18 months, allowing him back in March 2025.

Pogba never established himself in the principality, and his exit lands in the middle of a restless summer transfer window.

Paul Pogo came out with the following statement: "Representing this club and the principality was an incredible experience.

"AS Monaco is an incredible club and although I did not play as many games as I had hoped, I will always be grateful for the opportunity to wear their colours."

Thiago Scuro, Monaco's chief executive, framed the signing as a gamble worth taking.

"When Pogba joined, we explained that this was a major challenge, that was audacious and ambitious," he said.

"While the outcome is not what we had hoped for, it should not overshadow the enthusiasm that surrounded his return to club football."

"We wish Paul all the very best for the future."

Where next for Pogba?

The French player is attracting interest from Major League Soccer, as per BBC Sport.

He has previously been linked with DC United and Inter Miami and where European names keep landing in MLS.

However, any move may have to wait as the midfielder sustained a hamstring injury at Monaco's pre-season training camp in England last week.
