Fans were not happy
Manchester United fans have slammed Joshua Zirkzee for his social media post following the his side’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea.
Ruud van Nistelrooy’s side took the lead in the 70th minute through a Bruno Fernandes penalty before Moises Caicedo levelled just four minutes later.
Van Nistelrooy brought on Zirkzee for Rasmus Hojlund in the 84th minute.
Zirkzee, who hasn’t scored for Manchester United since his debut against Fulham had a golden opportunity moments after stepping onto the pitch.
He was put through on goal but didn’t have the pace to see it through as Wesley Fofana got himself back alongside the 23-year-old.
Following the draw, Zirkzee took to Instagram to share a photo of himself running through on goal despite the opportunity fizzling out and it angered fans who felt he should have done better.
One X user said: “No way Zirkzee actually had the audacity to post this. What a shameless breed.”
Another concurred: “This guy got no shame.”
The former Bologna striker joined in the summer transfer window for £36.5 million but has failed to impress the Old Trafford faithful scoring just one goal in 14 games across all competitions.
Van Nistelrooy will take charge of the Reds Europa League clash on Thursday night against PAOK as well as their Premier League fixture against Leicester on Sunday before new head coach Ruben Amorim takes charge from November 11.
The 48-year-old former United striker was full of praise for his players after the game despite not securing all three points.
He said: “Overall it was a very good performance. The players did really well and fought in every inch of the pitch. It was very good to watch that bit.
“The chances we created, we could have scored one more to win the game. It was a shame we couldn’t. Overall I’m slightly disappointed we didn’t win.”
