A man in his 70s has been pronounced dead

One person has been pronounced dead after an aircraft crashed into a field near Guildford.

As per The Mirror, Surrey Police were alerted to reports that a small plane had crashed into a field in Worplesdon, a village near Guildford, at around 3.30pm on Tuesday (6 October) with the news being made public today (9 October).

Emergency services attended the scene, including ambulance and fire crews, however, a man in his 70s was declared dead at the scene.

The crash site is reported to be a field north of Gravetts Lane.

While it remains unclear what caused the crash, the Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) said it had launched an investigation into the incident.

"A multidisciplinary team of inspectors has visited the accident site to gather evidence," a spokesperson said.

"The aircraft has been transported back to the AAIB's headquarters in Farnborough for further analysis."

A spokesperson for Surrey Police told Surrey Live: “Shortly after 3.30pm on Tuesday, October 6, officers responded to a light aircraft crash in a field in Worplesdon Close to Worplesdon Road.

“This involved a large emergency services presence in the area including partners from Surrey Fire & Rescue Service and the South East Coast Ambulance Service.

“Sadly, the pilot of the aircraft, a man in his 70s, was pronounced deceased at the location. His next of kin have been informed.

“An investigation into the circumstances of the crash will be carried out by the Air Accidents Investigation Branch.”

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the ambulance service said: “South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb) was called just after 3.30pm on Tuesday, October 6 following reports of a light aircraft crash in a field off Gravetts Lane in Guildford.

“Crews including a critical care paramedic attended the incident and were joined at the scene by the Air Ambulance Charity Kent Surrey Sussex, as well as Surrey Police and Surrey Fire & Rescue.

"Sadly, a male patient was declared deceased at the scene.”
