Grenfell residents are absolutely furious after receiving this misjudged letter

Paul Moore

Residents are ‘shaking with rage’.

The police have opened a criminal investigation into the Grenfell Tower fire that has tragically taken the lives of 30 people. This figure is expected to rise.

The Met Police released a statement which read: “The investigation team is being drawn together from detectives from across the Met, led by Detective Chief Inspector Matt Bonner of the Homicide and Major Crime Command. At this stage the Met can confirm that, following initial reports from specialist investigators and experts who have examined the flat where the fire started, there is nothing to suggest the fire was started deliberately.

It adds: “However, like any police investigation, it is the job of the police to establish all the facts and if any criminal offences have been committed. The Met will work closely with the London Fire Brigade and the Health and Safety Executive, and it has been agreed that the police will take primacy of the investigation. The investigation will look at all aspects of how people tragically lost their lives in this terrible fire, what happened and why.”

While the police investigate why this blaze occurred, it’s apparent that those living in the area feel completely ignored, angry and despondent by the apparent apathy from the authorities.

Local residents have questioned Theresa May’s decision not to meet the victims while other people have highlighted the fact that people “don’t care” about the social inequality and massive safety concerns that exist in this area of London.

Given that people feel like their cries are being neglected and ignored, this notification from from the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea couldn’t have been sent at a worse time.

At such a sensitive time, it appears that young children playing ball games in the area opposite the Grenfell apartments is worthy of this threatening letter.

Paul Brand, political correspondent for ITV News, shared this letter on Twitter and he said that the local residents are “shaking with rage. One woman ran up to me screaming through gritted teeth.”

It’s easy to see why.
