Another day passed on Wednesday with no resolution reached on the issue of how the border between Ireland and Northern Ireland will be affected by Brexit, an issue that needs to be resolved before all parties can advance to the next phase of negotiations.
Theresa May shared phone conversations with DUP leader Arlene Foster and Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar on Wednesday and in the latter phone call, both leaders agreed on “the paramount importance of no hard border or physical infrastructure at the border between Ireland and Northern Ireland”.
Earlier in the day, meanwhile, David Davis, Secretary of State for Exiting the European Union, revealed that there had, in fact, been no impact assessment conducted on Brexit, a revelation that prompted bemusement and indeed, anger, in the United Kingdom and the island of Ireland.
Those revelations, in particular, coupled with the general response to the sometimes baffling events of this week, prompted The National, a newspaper that supports an independent Scotland, to publish the following front page for Thursday’s edition.
