Fans say ‘the makeup team needs a raise’ after realising who plays Prince Andrew in Scoop

Some viewers ‘can’t believe their eyes’.

The new Netflix film telling the story of Prince Andrew’s infamous Newsnight interview has been receiving rave reviews after dropping on the streaming site last week.

Prince Andrew has faced scrutiny for his friendship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, and the accusations that surround this part of his life. He was accused of sexual abuse by Virginia Giuffre, and settled her case against him for more than £12m back in 2022.

Back in 2019, the 64-year-old sat down with Newsnight to address his relationship with Epstein, who died in New York’s Metropolitan Correctional Center a few months prior to the interview.

The interview received a lot of attention, but was met with negative reactions from both the public and the media. Although the original interview is no longer available to watch on BBC iPlayer, it is available on BBC News’ YouTube channel.

Netflix’s adaptation of the story surrounding the interview has been one of the service’s most anticipated films of the year, and viewers haven’t been disappointed.

One of the features of the film that people are notably blown away by, is the uncanny resemblance that the lead actor has to the disgraced prince.

The similarity was so striking that many people hopped on their phones to Google who the actor was, and were dumfounded by what they found.

Prince Andrew is played by 56-year-old actor Rufus Sewell in Scoop. Sewell is best known for playing dashing characters in The Holiday, A Knight’s Tale and The Diplomat.

The revelation has led to much-deserved recognition for the production’s hair and makeup team.

One person tweeted: “Just finished watching Netflix Scoop. Typical outstanding British production. The transformation of the actor Rufus Sewell into Prince Andrew is incredible. Do not miss this one.”

Another user posted: “You forget just what a cringefest this all was. Rufus Sewell is brilliant at capturing Andrew in all his embarrassing, tactless, sleazy, arrogant, out of touch, bullying glory. Warning: contains a ‘royal’ arse in a wish-you-could-unsee-it bathtub scene.”

One other person wrote: “Scoop on Netflix was so good and wow I didn’t even realise Rufus Sewell was Prince Andrew what a transformation!!”
