Dylann Roof, who killed nine people in the Charleston church shooting last year, has been sentenced to death following a unanimous jury verdict.

Roof, now 22, confessed to wanting to start a “race war” with the shooting at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in South Carolina.

A jury was tasked with deciding whether he would be handed the death penalty or life in prison, with the former only possible with a unanimous decision.

The jury was asked to weigh a number of factors before reaching their decision, and ultimately found that all the below criteria for the death penalty had been met.
