Denzel Washington is returning for The Equalizer 3

'I get to beat people up again'

Denzel Washington has confirmed that he will be returning as Robert McCall in The Equalizer 3. Based on the 1980s TV show of the same name, the 67-year-old first took on the role of McCall in 2014. Despite receiving mixed reviews from critics, the 2014 violent and action-packed film was a box office smash, grossing more than $192 million. Washington killing countless numbers of henchmen in a variety of violent ways? Of course, the films raked it in at the box office. The actor returned in the 2018 sequel, but news about a third installment had gone quiet. Until now that is, with Washington himself confirming the news of his return as Robert McCall. In an interview with Collider to discuss The Tragedy of Macbeth, in which Washington stars as the titular king, the actor was asked about his plans for 2022. He didn't just reveal that The Equalizer was returning, but that it had also already been written. "They have written the third Equalizer, so I’m scheduled to do that. So I gotta get in shape and start beating people up again. I get to beat people up again. The Tragedy of Macbeth and then going and beating some people up. Can’t get any better, right?" He'll start work on the film after finishing up on Emancipation with Will Smith. Fuqua also worked with Washington on Training Day. Whilst we don't know anything about the plot yet, Fuqua has previously spoken about his desire to see McCall travel overseas. He said in 2018: "In my mind, there’s a European adventure, absolutely. In my mind, that’s what I’d like, to see him in Europe, in the future. God willing." Related links:
