Tony Garnett said ‘out of Putin’s evil has come something really good’

The British dad who ran off with a Ukrainian refugee after she came to live with him and his partner plans to marry her and wants to reverse his vasectomy so they can have a family together.

Tony Garnett, 29, hit the headlines in May after leaving his 28-year-old partner, Lorna Garnett, who he had been with for eight years, for 22-year-old Sofiia Karkadym. Garnett had sponsored Karkadym and moved on with her 10 days after she moved in with his family in Bradford.

Garnett now says he and Karkadym plan to have children together after she convinced him to try and reverse a vasectomy he underwent after having two children with his ex.

He told MailOnline that he wants to “propose to this beautiful lady”. Karkadym added: “We are planning our life together. I want to be a mother. I want to have children.

“I am a young woman so it can wait a few years and I hope that Tony can have his vasectomy reversed so that we can become a family together.”

Despite only knowing each other for two months, the couple plan to visit Karkadym’s family in Ukraine, so Garnett can ask her parents for her hand in marriage. He plans to formally propose once their situation is stable, so he can “make it special”.

Garnett added: “I want to say that out of Putin’s evil has come something really good for me and her.”

He told the Mail that the relationship had made them both famous, saying: “I picked up 5,000 Instagram followers yesterday and she got 7,000 for no reason at all. People are fascinated with us.”

Karkadym explained that while her family were initially “very upset” thinking she had “stolen somebody’s husband”, but she had since explained that the pair “innocently fell in love”.

Garnett is now Karkadym carer after she developed an eye problem on her journey to the UK and is now partially blind.
