Cyclist left with broken jaw after being punched for crashing into child on zebra crossing

The cyclist had to undergo ‘extensive surgery’

Police have appealed for information after a cyclist was left with a broken jaw following an assault at a zebra crossing.

On the morning of May 13, a male cyclist was involved in a collision with a young girl on a zebra crossing on Lauriston Road, Hackney.

The cyclist was then punched by a man immediately after the accident, leaving him with a broken jaw.

The man is not thought to have known the child, who police do not believe suffered any injuries in the collision.

The cyclist was taken to hospital where he underwent extensive surgery, the Met said in a statement.

Officers are investigating and are appealing to any drivers who may have been in the area at the time and could have dash-cam footage to come forward.

Anyone with information is asked to call 101 quoting ref CAD 3783/2June.
