But no matter if for the reasons above, or for no reason at all, this position is often laden with controversy, no matter how popular it becomes. As child-free couples rise in prominence, so too do the voices of people criticising the couples' choices.

And it's been no different for Indianna Diaz and Heraldo, who's clear decision not to have kids together has sparked somewhat of a furore online.

Posting to TikTok to celebrate Heraldo's vasesctomy, the couple were met with a mixed response online.

Indianna said: "My husband was adamant that he would get a vasectomy. He's like 'you've done your bit, you have been on birth control, it's my time.'

Heraldo received the treatment after Indianna was refused a tubal ligationb ecause she was not 35-years-old.

The video, captioned 'POV: Your husband gets the snip, so you get to live forever in your DINK era.', promptly received a mixed response.

Many were questioning or critical of the decision, with one writing: “I will never understand the point of getting married unless you’re going to have kids."

However, the post also received a lot of positive reactions from couples who had made the same decision or were generally critical of the idea people need to have kids to lead a fulfilling life.

One user wrote: "Society pushes you into thinking you haven't made it in life without kids and marriage, we’re 45 no kids double income = no worries..life is good."

Another said: "I have kids & I have to say GO YOU!! Absolutely LOVE seeing people living their lives how they want to - despite the societal pressure of reproducing!"

There were enough critical comments from this initial video that Indianna has responded to the most persistent responses in subsequent videos explaining her decision.

What's clear is that regardless of the rationale behind their decision, it's their decision to make.
