This Boxing Day hasn't ended yet and we're already thinking about the next

There will be a change up to next year’s holiday season for Brits, as Boxing Day next year falls on a Saturday.

This means that you will enjoy an “extra day” off over the festive period as a UK worker.

Christmas only just ended and one year from now might seem like it’s far away, but an extra day to kick back and relax is still great news for when next year comes.

December 26 falls on a Saturday and it will not be regarded as a bank holiday, but don’t worry as that doesn’t mean you’ll miss out on a day off.

According to the government website, an additional substitute day off will be granted on Monday, December 28.

As for the other bank holidays throughout 2026, most of them will be the same as 2025, with the UK being given New Year’s Day in addition to a long Easter weekend, from Good Friday (April 3) to Easter Monday (April 6).

And there’s also the bank holidays in spring and summer: May Day Bank Holiday, late May Bank Holiday, and the late August Bank Holiday, which will take place on May 4, May 25, and August 31 respectively.

Things will change once again two years from now, as in 2027, over the festive period Brits will enjoy an additional two days off.

December 25 and 26 in 2027 land on a Saturday and Sunday, which means the bank holidays will roll over into the following week, and you can sit back and relax on Monday, December 27 and Tuesday, December 28 as well.
