Police are appealing for information

A masked gunman has shot a man at point blank range on a quiet Yorkshire street.

The picture below shows the moment he takes aim at his victim, who is cowering on the pavement.

Police released the image from a neighbour’s security camera as part of an effort to track down the gunman.

It’s believed he fired a shotgun weapon into his victim’s leg in a “targeted attack,” in Birkby West Yorkshire, before fleeing the scene in a blue van at 4.40am on Friday 8 June.

The victim is a 32-year-old man who is in hospital with serious leg injuries but a stable condition.

The image shows the suspect wearing what appears to be a black ski mask, grey tracksuit bottoms and a distinctive blue top with a white motif down the arms.

Detective Inspector Emma Winfield, said: “We are continuing to appeal for witnesses to this incident or anyone who may have seen a man previously acting suspiciously in the area wearing similar clothing.

“We also believe the suspect left the scene in a small blue van and would ask for anyone who may have seen this vehicle to contact us.

“This is clearly a very serious incident and reassurance patrols will continue in the area while our investigation is progressing.”

Anyone who can assist with enquiries is asked to contact the Homicide and Major Enquiries Team on 101, quoting crime reference 13180276790, or use the Contact Us options on the West Yorkshire Police website.

Information can also be reported anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
