An Arsenal fan cancelled their family holiday so that he could stay to watch them win the league.

The Gunners have been in pole position for the majority of the season but have fallen away in recent weeks and their 3-0 defeat at home to Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday means Manchester City are one game away from winning the title.

Goals from Julio Cesar Enciso, Deniz Undav and Pervis Estupinan saw Roberto De Zerbi’s men romp to victory at the Emirates, leaving many Arsenal fans feeling dejected.

Off the back of the shock loss, a tweet from an Arsenal fan back in January resurfaced in which he revealed he had cancelled his family holiday in order to attend the final game of the season against Wolves on May 28 in the hope that he will watch them lift the league title.

He tweeted: “About a year ago, my wife & I booked a family holiday to Mauritius, leaving 26 May. I recently found out our final home game is Wolves on 28 May.

“I had to cancel our holiday. MY WIFE IS RAGING. Too scared to go home. We better win the league. Pray for me.”

Unsurprisingly, following the defeat, many piled on board to poke fun at the fan.

“Post the divorce papers bro,” one fan wrote.

Another said: “That is a huge compliment cancelling your holiday so you can watch Wolves.

A third said: “Imagine canceling your whole trip just to see Man City lifting the trophy.”

After the game, Arsenal captain Martin Ødegaard conceded that the title race is effectively over.

Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: “Yes, it feels like that. I think it’s going to be very difficult to be honest. So yeah it’s a tough one to take.

“It’s not a good feeling at the moment especially the way we played in the second half. It’s a big, big disappointment and yes it feels like no hope no.”
