Applying for a passport is going to be more expensive from tomorrow

Some application costs are increasing by as much as 27 per cent

It doesn't matter whether you go online or by post, applying for a passport will be more expensive from March 27. The increase means it will be pricier to renew by post than online for the first time. As of Tuesday, March 27, the cost of a passport will rise by £3 online and £12.50 via the postman. Online applications will cost £75.50 for adults and £49 for children, while postal applications will come to £85 and £58.50 respectively. It is possible to avoid the price hikes though if you renew now, given your passport doesn’t expire until December 26 2018. Doing so will mean any time left on your old passport, up to a maximum of nine months, will be transferred to your new one. HM Passport Office was granted powers to rise fees in the Immigration Act [2016] to help it process the six million applications it receives yearly. The proposals are unrelated to the UK passport colour change from burgundy to blue after Brexit.
