Online applications will cost £75.50 for adults and £49 for children, while postal applications will come to £85 and £58.50 respectively.
It is possible to avoid the price hikes though if you renew now, given your passport doesn’t expire until December 26 2018. Doing so will mean any time left on your old passport, up to a maximum of nine months, will be transferred to your new one.
HM Passport Office was granted powers to rise fees in the Immigration Act [2016] to help it process the six million applications it receives yearly.
