Alec John Such, founding member of Bon Jovi, dies at 70

‘Alec was always wild and full of life’

Alec John Such, a founding member of Bon Jovi and bass player, has died at the age of 70 with a cause yet to be revealed.

Announcing his death on June 5 via social media, Bon Jovi wrote: “He was an original.

“As a founding member of Bon Jovi, Alec was integral to the formation of the band.

“To be honest, we found our way to each other thru [sic] him,” the statement added. “Alec was always wild and full of life. Today those special moments will bring a smile to my face and tears to my eyes.”

A cause of death is yet to be revealed.

Such played bass for the iconic band from 1983 to 1994, and Bon Jovi credits the man as the glue that bought them together.

“Rest Easy brother, Alec John Such,” wrote Jon Bon Jovi’s brother Matthew Bongiovi on Twitter.

Music historian Eddie Trunk commented: “RIP former and original Bon Jovi bassist Alec John Such.”

“This one’s hard to hear,” wrote Scott King, a fan and fellow musician. “Bon Jovi have been a huge inspiration to me since I took my first breath in this world. Very sad to hear about the passing of their legendary original bassist Alec John Such. You will be missed. Thoughts go out to his family, friends and the band.”

“Gutted to hear of the passing of Alec John Such, a member of Bon Jovi when I fell in love with the band and played all the early gigs I was at,” another fan shared. “I’ll treasure catching that plec at the keep the faith tour a little bit more now.”
