Willy Wonka actor and noted comedian Gene Wilder has passed away aged 83.
Wilder, who starred in such beloved classics as The Producers, Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein, Stir Crazy and of course, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, passed away on Monday evening at his home in Stamford, Connecticut.
According to a report given by his nephew in Variety, it is believed the actor turned writer passed away due to complications from Alzheimer’s disease.
Upon hearing the news, the world mourned the passing of a man who had given so many wonderful childhood memories.

A two-time Oscar nominee, Wilder was known for his larger than life comic characters, full of verve, wit and spark for life.
A frequent collaborator with writer and director Mel Brooks as well as stand-up comedian Richard Pryor, it would eventually be his role as Willy Wonka in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory that he would be best known for, charming and beguiling a generation of film goers with his iconic turn as the off the wall chocolatier.
Turning to writing in his later years, Wilder penned five books, including his 2005 memoir, “Kiss Me Like a Stranger: My Search for Love and Art”
He is survived by his fourth wife Karen Boyer, whom he married in 1991, and his nephew.
