The Streets’ Mike Skinner dislocates shoulder after crowdsurfing at homecoming gig

Mike Skinner is a national treasure, this isn’t up for debate

If you’ve ever had the pleasure of seeing The Streets live, you’ll already know that Mike Skinner is one hell of a performer. Can of Kronenbourg 1664 in hand and usually in shorts, Skinner doesn’t need the overblown stage designs or lighting of other musicians.

He just needs a microphone.

The frontman did pay the price for his typically energetic performances, however, after dislocating his shoulder whilst diving into the crowd during ‘Fit But You Know It’ during a show at Birmingham’s O2 Academy on Friday night.

An expectedly raucous homecoming gig proved just that, with Skinner uploading an Instagram video of his ordeal soon afterwards.

It shows the rapper diving over the barriers to crowd surf, before then cutting to him in a hospital bed receiving pain relief for his injury. He says, in typically honest fashion, “I’m fucked”, before another clip shows the shoulder being popped back into place, while Skinner says, “I heard it, I could cry.”

He ends the video by thanking the staff for helping him, saying: “Thank you so much to everyone at Birmingham City Hospital for putting my arm back in.” That’s rock and roll for you.

Skinner is still in Birmingham and set for Round 2 at the same venue tonight. Will he attempt another stage dive? I wouldn’t bet against it.
