Ed Sheeran has broken his silence following Jamal Edwards’ sudden death earlier this week, saying the tragedy feels like the “loss of [a] brother”.

Following the news of Edwards’ death on February 20, a plethora of stars shared their condolences and reminisced over their memories of the 31-year-old trailblazer. However one notable name to be missed was Sheeran, whose friendship with Edwards was public knowledge.

Taking to Instagram to remember his mate, the “Shape of You” singer wrote: “I haven’t posted anything coz I can’t find the words, I can’t reply coz I don’t know what to say. Jamal is my brother. His light shone so bright. He only used it to illuminate others and never asked for anything in return.

“A star’s light shines for millions of years after they go, and his will continue to light up every dark moment, we are all witnessing his power. I would not be here without him, professionally and personally. There will never be anything close to what he is, but I’m so grateful to have existed within his orbit. My brother, come on.”

Jessie J, who appeared on Celebrity Goggle Box alongside Edwards wrote: “Your light. Your ideas. Your love for your Mum and sister. Your work ethic. Your dedication to making a difference, not just in this industry, but in this world. Your laugh. Your laugh. Your care for every person you met was unmatched. But your friendship… Phew. That’s why my heart is broken. We had plans, bro. I can’t believe this is real.I love you.”
