If you're ruing the fact that you didn't book any days off work this week to enjoy an extra long bank holiday weekend, let us stop you making the same mistake again by marking your diaries. Depending on where you like in the UK (and who your employers if you're Scottish), there are either four or five bank holidays remaining in 2016 - with the next one not far away at all. England and Wales miss out on an extra day when compared to Ireland and Scotland, who have an extra day each for differing reasons. Here's the skinny on those bonus hols...

England and Wales

Pretty standard stuff. The next bank holiday is at the end of this month, followed by a summer bank holiday in August, and two days off for Crimbo. It's important to note that Tuesday December 27th is a hol because Christmas Day falls on a weekend...

Northern Ireland

Norn Iron dates are just as above except there's an extra day off on Tuesday July 12th, f0r what we can all agree is a very uncontroversial and tension-free reason *sideways look at camera*...

Scotland

It's slightly more complicated for the Scots. Not only is their summer bank holiday on a different day to the rest of the union (August 1st instead of August 29th), but they have an optional bank holiday on November 30th for St. Andrew's Day.
