Dr Simon Graff, lead researcher on the study at a fellow at the Institute for Kilinisk Medicine says in the recently published paper:
"The risk was highest 8–14 days after the loss, after which it gradually declined. One year after the loss, the risk was almost the same as in the non-bereaved population."Chances are if you've broken up with your girlfriend recently you might want to take it easy. If you broke up with her last year and still haven't got over her – don't stress – at least you're far less likely to die from a broken heart now. Full study here.
