Passenger goes viral after refusing seat swap

A passenger who refused to give up his window seat for a stranger’s child, despite paying extra for it, has been defended online after sharing the awkward encounter on Reddit.

The man explained on the “entitledparents” subreddit that the incident happened in 2019 while he was flying back from Brazil after visiting relatives.

He had paid an additional £150 for the window seat so he could travel more comfortably and had already settled in when another passenger approached him.

The other traveller, who was sitting in the middle seats with his son, asked whether he would be willing to swap seats so the child could have the window view.

However, the man politely declined, explaining that he had specifically paid extra for the seat.

The father apparently wasn’t thrilled with the answer and responded with a glare, but the passenger simply put his headphones back on and returned to enjoying his £150 view.

But the situation did not end there. A few minutes later, a flight attendant approached and asked if he would reconsider giving up his seat for the child.

The passenger once again refused and showed the crew member his ticket and the receipt proving he had paid extra for the window seat.

After seeing the evidence, the flight attendant apologised for the interruption and returned to the father to explain that the swap would not be happening.

He recalled getting one last glare from the father, who he believed was counting on the flight attendant to swoop in and hand over the window seat on his behalf.

The story quickly turned into a Reddit support group for anyone who has ever dealt with a seat-swapping request gone wrong, as users backed the passenger and shared their own stories.

One irritated commenter wrote: “The flight attendant was rude to ask, even if you hadn’t paid extra for the seat. Your boarding pass indicated that particular seat and you weren’t bothering anyone unlike that man with his child.”
