Now, this is something you don’t see every day

Herbert Xia is due to have a rather awkward conversation with a car rental company.

Having parked the vehicle on a residential street in Australia while he ran some errands, Herbert returned some 15-minutes later to find the car severely damaged.

A sofa had seemingly fallen from the sky and obliterated the windscreen and half the passenger side of the Toyota Yaris.

Police are investigating and have suggested the sofa may have been hurled from a nearby balcony during a party.

Herbert, who had left the car in the Ultimo district of Sydney, told 9News: “It’s just bizarre, if I was trying to put a ticket onto my car at that moment I could end up at hospital.

“I have no words for this incident, feel very lucky.”

The sofa plummeted through nearby trees on its path to Herbert’s car.

Pictures show the car completely smashed with the sofa still on top of it, with leaves scattered over the bonnet.

Herbert’s car had been left on Jones Street at 7.30pm on Thursday.

The region’s police chief inspector, Gary Coffey, said: “The couch was thrown from a significant height, it happened as people were coming home from work.”
