Simulation shows what happens to your brain after you die

‘It’s wild’

Many of us try to avoid thinking about what happens to our brains when we die but a simulation shared on YouTube has put people’s minds at ease.

Jack D. Films shared a video of a simulation of what some researchers have claimed will happen to our brains when we die.

In the clip, the content creator says: “Right before you die your brain has a surge of activity causing a type of electrical wave.

“These waves activate parts of the brain associated with memory and consciousness and this can continue for up to two minutes after death.”

The video continues to explain that because there is no biological reason for it to happen, some researchers believe that the brain is pre-planned to do this, giving you a chance to relive memories one last time.

People flocked to the comments as they shared their thoughts on the research with many saying it made them feel better.

“I like the idea of these last few minutes being a feeling of total euphoria like you’ve never felt before in life, to comfort you during something so frightening.”

Another said: “It’s wild how our brain literally gives us a sendoff/memorial and comforts us.”

A third commented: “It’s like your brain is reminiscing with you, like a very last “hey, remember when-” conversation.”

However, another viewer commented: “Wait that’s actually so sad though. It’s like the brain is trying to comfort you and itself before dying by using your best memories.”

Back in Estonia in 2022, scientists were studying the brain waves of an 87-year-old epilepsy patient for seizures using an electroencephalography (EEG) device, but in the middle of the study, the patient had a heart attack and died.

The scientists studied the EEG recording of the 30 seconds before and after the patient died which revealed the brain waves were similar to that of someone dreaming or during memory retrieval.

The theory is backed up by neurosurgeon and neurobiologist, Dr Rahul Jandial who has done extensive research into this area.

Speaking to fellow medical expert, Dr Rangan Chatterjee on the Feel Better, Live More podcast he said that after official cardiac death, the brain electricity is ‘not just going, there’s a massive explosion of activity, similar to dreaming brain waves, similar to expansive memory brain waves’.

He claims the brain is having its final moment, adding “maybe its best moment.”
