Harry Kane consoles wife after disappointing Euros defeat

Charlie Herbert

The players’ families were in attendance at Wembley to give their support.

Harry Kane was seen consoling his wife after the England’s heartbreaking penalty shoot out defeat to Italy in the Euro 2020 final on Sunday.

Despite going 1-0 up after just 2 mins through a Luke Shaw goal, England conceded midway through the second half to the Italians, with the match then going to extra time and eventually penalties.

After misses from Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, and finally Bukayo Saka the crown was Italy’s, leaving the vast majority of those inside Wembley disconsolate.

The partners and families of England players had turned out in their numbers to support the team, but sadly it was not to be for England on the night.

In the aftermath of the defeat the players could be seen comforting, and being comforted, by their loved ones.

And it seems that Kate Kane, the wife of the England captain, was as distraught as the rest of us. Visibly upset and tearful, she was consoled by her husband Harry.

Other members of the England side had their families present at the game as well.

Kyle Walker, Phil Foden and Harry Maguire could all be seen reunited with their loved ones who had descended on the stadium to offer their support.

In the lead up to the big match, which was England’s first major final in 55 years, Kate had penned an emotional and touching letter to her husband in which she told the striker how proud he was making his family.

Throughout the tournament players have not been able to have contact with anyone outside of their team bubble, so have been apart from their families for the entirety of the tournament.

In the message to her husband shared on Saturday, Kate said: “You’re such an amazing husband and dad and the children can’t wait to have you home.”
