People CANNOT get over how Nigella Lawson pronounces ‘microwave’

Josh Kaplan

How often do you think about your microwave? Surely no longer than the max 3 mins it takes to use it to heat up an incredibly average meal on a rainy Tuesday when you can’t be bothered to cook. Well free up that space in your brain, because Nigella Lawson will make you question everything you know about the humble device that cooks food using not direct heat, but radiation.

Nigella, in her sultry and infinite wisdom, has pioneered a brand new way of pronouncing everyone’s fourth favourite kitchen appliance. Instead of saying ‘Microwave’, she said “meek-ro-wah-vey”. I know right, absolutely nuts!

The clip, from her latest excellent series, caused quite a stir on Twitter with many saying this should now become the official pronunciation of the household essential.

It’s same to assume that privately educated Lawson who read medieval languages at Oxford, whose father is former Chancellor of the Exchequer Nigel Lawson, knows how to pronounce the efficient cooking device and was simply making a light-heared joke. But maybe not! Maybe she doesn’t know how to say the name of the hottest selling cookery tool of the 1980s – with 2020 anything’s possible!
