Here’s what Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz are eating ahead of their UFC 202 fight

No sign of steaks...

“That’s good TV and that’s real shit” – Nate Diaz.

It’s fight week and that can only mean one thing, the return of the UFC’s fly-on-the-wall documentary series, UFC Embedded.

The premiere episode of the UFC 202 series focuses heavily on headliners Nate Diaz and Conor McGregor, particularly what they’ll be eating during fight week,

Both are natural 155 lbers, so the fact that they’re fighting again at welterweight means they won’t have as tough of a weight cut as they have done in the past, meaning they’re eating a little better than they would normally do during fight week.

As we know the Californian is one of the fight game’s most high profile vegan athletes. It opens with Diaz doing his shopping in Whole Foods, picking up lots of high-protein, high fat snacks such as nuts and grains, before he chows down on some sushi for lunch.

Then we get a glimpse into the MacMansion, where McGregor’s nutritionist George Lockhart gives some details on the featherweight champion’s diet as he whips him up a meal of honey and barbecue chicken with avocado.

“Right now, we’re probably going to cut back on the carbs a little bit. It’s not that he’s cutting weight, but actually carb loading. It kind of tricks the body into being more efficient with the glycogen storages. So, give him a high-fat diet, make sure that he’s feeling good. He’s going to be chilling a lot in his last week, kicking back.”

McGregor has completely changed his diet and training after the crushing defeat to Diaz last time out. Gone are the steaks and now it’s solely foods that will bring the Dubliner peak athletic performance.

The Notorious has been following the Sirt Food diet to increase his recovery and lean muscle mass.
