There’s a new ‘Fittest Man on Earth’ at the CrossFit Games

What a machine...

Ben Kenyon

For four years Rich Froning dominated the CrossFit Games.

As a quadruple champion, and undisputed Fittest Man on Earth, Froning became a household name.

But now there’s a new name on the CrossFit Games trophy – that man is Ben Smith.

The six-time Games veteran made it lucky number seven to become champion after Froning moved aside to compete in the team event (which he unsurprisingly won).

Over 13 gruelling workouts Smith scored two first place finishes and was rarely out of the top 10, beating young prodigy Mat Fraser and old hand Dan Bailey into 2nd and 3rd overall.

Icelandic machine Katrín Tanja Davíðsdóttir was crowned the Fittest Woman on Earth at the CrossFit Games.

She follows in the footsteps of fellow Icelander Annie Thórisdóttir who won the title in 2011 and 2012.

But it was another fellow countrywoman she had to overcome in rookie Ragnheiður Sara Sigmundsdóttir to emerge victorious.

It came down to the last day with Davíðsdóttir in third and Sigmundsdóttir in first, but the former emerged victorious after winning the last event of the whole competition.

Whatever is in the water in Iceland, we want some.
