Science reveals what Testoterone actually does to your brain

Testosterone might be turning you into a jerk...

Scientist have confirmed that high Testosterone levels in men are often linked to a lack of empathy and compassion.

According to a new study in the popular research journal ‘Psychoneuroendicinology‘, men with high levels of Testosterone routinely fail at the ‘Reading the mind in the eyes’ (or RME) Test.

Now concluded, the tests indicate that the male sex hormone reduces functional connectivity in the parts of the brain responsibly for empathy and compassion.

The test is a well known series of questions designed to gauge how good participants were at reading non-verbal cues and individual intent through body language alone.

Now concluded, the tests indicate that the male sex hormone reduces functional connectivity in the parts of the brain responsibly for empathy and compassion.

Researchers also concluded that Testosterone plays a vital role in ‘sexual dimorphism’; the differences that occur in appearance between males and females of the same species.

Adversely, a previous study proved that for female participants a single administration of testosterone had the opposite effect, impairing women’s performance in the same test.

The researchers behind the study suggest testosterone-based treatments could be used as cures for Autism-related conditions in the future.
