Gym etiquette has existed for as long as gymnasiums have. Like most places in our civilised society, there are certain acceptable behaviours, and certain behaviours that are a little less acceptable.

For the most part, people go to the gym to get some exercise, and then leave once they’ve done what they want. They don’t want to stand around waiting, forced to spend more time there than they already have to.

That’s why people are particularly sensitive to time wasters in the gym, as well as people trying to use the workout area as their own personal photography studio.
