WATCH: The Netflix-produced series about El Chapo looks absolutely fantastic

Paul Moore

Narcos fans will love this. We’re also getting two movies about the Mexican kingpin.

Given the fact that Joaquín Archivaldo Guzmán Loera – better known by his nickname El Chapo – is one of the most infamous criminals in the world,  it’s only fitting that his story is being adapted for TV and film.

In the TV series ‘El Chapo’, audiences will get to see the life of the notorious drug kingpin over the course of three cycles, according to Deadline.

Each section will examine a different period of his life, starting with his early years in the Guadalajara cartel. The second stage will cover his rise to power and the final act will portray his inevitable downfall.

The series is the first official co-production between Netflix and Univision and it’s set to premiere on April 23 on Univision. The episodes will then move to Netflix after their first run.

As of now, no official release date has been given for the UK and Ireland but watch this space.

Take a look.

It’s not just this new TV series that will examine El Chapo’s life because audiences are also going to be treated to two film adaptations.

Variety are reporting that Sony have acquired the rights to Cole Merrell and Douglas Century’s book, Hunting El Chapo: The Thrilling Inside Story of the American Lawman Who Captures the World’s Most-Wanted Drug Lord.

At the present moment, Transformers and The Rock director Michael Bay is in talks to develop that adaptation, but it’s not yet known if he will direct or just produce the film.

If he does get behind the lens, it would be the second time that Bay has helmed an already established property. He recently directed the Benghazi drama 13 Hours.

Elsewhere, Fox are adapting Don Winslow’s book The Cartel with Ridley Scott attached to direct.

We’re excited.
