Tom Hardy promises “the best Venom” possible as the plot details are revealed

This is going to be great.

In Spider-Man: Homecoming, Tom Holland managed to breathe new life into the web-crawler but things are about to get dark, very dark when Tom Hardy steps into the role of Venom.

As we’ve previously seen, the star of Dunkirk and Bronson is in magnificent shape as he trains for Ruben Fleischer’s (Zombieland) film and the Londoner took some time out of filming to address the fans at Comic-Con Experience in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Speaking via a pre-recorded message, Hardy said: “As a pro and as a Dad, I promise to deliver you the best Eddie Brock/Venom I can; because I know how important it is to the fans and to the Marvel Universe and to the awesome team that is working super hard to deliver day and night out here in Atlanta right now.”

As for the plot, it appears that the standalone Venom film will be inspired by two classic miniseries, Lethal Protector and  Planet of the Symbiotes.

In the Lethal Protector arc, the story kicks-off with a truce between Eddie Brock and Spider-Man as Hardy’s character moves to San Francisco. There, he began a career as an antihero rather than a villain.

Needless to say, trouble follows hot on Brock’s heels, as the miniseries saw Venom being hunted down by the sinister Life Foundation. The mysterious organisation wanted to harness the power of Brock’s symbiote and create five new deadly spawns – Scream, Phage, Riot, Lasher, and Agony.

It’s being rumoured that the plotline in the film might diverge slightly by introducing Carnage, the main bad guy. It’s believed that the superb Riz Ahmed (The Night Of, Rogue One) is playing Carnage’s host, Cletus Kasady.

As for the arc in Planet of the Symbiotes, that plotline sees Earth being invaded by an army of symbiotes with Venom teaming up with Spider-Man and Scarlet Spider to stop them.

Filming on Venom is already underway with Ahmed, Michelle Williams, Jenny Slate, Reid Scott, and Scott Haze all joining Hardy.

Venom hits theaters on October 5, 2018. We can’t wait!
