The two new seasons of The Simpsons will see it earn a place in the record books

D’oh.

The Simpsons has been renewed for its 29th and 30th seasons, halfway through its 28th. By the time the show reaches the end of its 30th season, it will probably have reached a significant milestone – becoming the TV show with the most episodes of all time.

Currently, the TV show with the most episodes is CBS show Gunsmoke, which ran from 1955 until 1975. Gunsmoke drew to a close in its 20th season, and with The Simpsons only 35 episodes away from surpassing it, it’s almost nailed on that it will overtake it.

Despite the newer episodes of the show drawing a high level of criticism, the show still brings in an average of 7.2 million viewers per episode. Unfortunately, the way the show has gone, we can expect to see more ridiculous shark-jumping episodes that would make one forget that the show was once a marvellous piece of television.
